Visit Downtown LV! Why? Read on!
- Free shows!
You've got the mega-watt sky high Viva Vision show held nightly with music themes related to the current season! This is the true essence of the sparkling lights of Vegas! First time visitors will be WOWED by the magic of it all.
There is always live music happening, I've seen up to three stages going on with cover bands playing all at the same time, country, 80's, 90's and good ole' rock and roll!
Live artists demonstrate their skills as well! Painters, sculptors, someone who can write your name on a grain a rice, and solo musicians are all fun to watch!
Copy cat celebrities are there, the Avengers, Batman, Jack Nicholson, Cupid, a Minion, etc...Take a picture with them or just people watch! Casino girls are shimmying away, people with a few drinks in them let loose and dance and zip liners are always cruising by overhead!
- Cheap eats!
Yes, the $1.99 shrimp cocktail lives on!You'll find it here downtown. Have a deep fried twinkie or a foot long hot dog! Graveyard specials abound! You can gorge yourself on a full meal for less than $8. Promise! Better yet, join the players club, earn some points and redeem them for food at the casino's various eateries.
- Free souvenirs!
Get some mardi gras beads from the girls out front at the Mermaids Casino. Most players clubs will give you a deck of cards for signing up! The best souvenir downtown is the FREE 5 x 7 picture with a million bucks at Binion's! We try and take a picture every time we go, it's a great souvenir and captures our trips over the years!
- Aloha!
My favorite hotel of all downtown is the California! This is where Hawaiians come to stay and gamble. Because of this targeted population, there are Hawaiian eats at Aloha Specialties upstairs. Saimin, spam musubi, bento specials and oxtail soup. Lapperts ice cream also available here! The butterfish dinner is to die for at the 24 hour Market Cafe. The vibe is laid back, friendly, and cool. $5 black jack and fun dealers make this a great place to gamble.
- Casino Hop!
The Cal is connected to Main Street Casino, but step outside and you can hit up four to five casinos easily within a few feet! If I'm not winning at the Golden Gate, I'll cross over and try the Las Vegas Club or the Plaza. I also like to gamble at the Golden Nugget. Newer / renovated casinos include the D and the Downtown Grand!
